"You're killing me, Larry!"

SitNSleepI'm sure many of you are familiar with the Sit 'n Sleep radio ads where Larry (the owner) and Irwin (the accountant) complain about great mattress deals. Each commercial includes the phrases, "You're killing me, Larry!" and "Sit 'n Sleep will beat anyone's advertised price, or your mattress is FREEEEE!!!". These commercials are completely horrible, but several months ago Sit 'n Sleep had a few ads that were completely different and didn't have Irwin the accountant. As these commercials have become a Southern California staple, people began to worry that something had happened to Irwin. After several complaints, they brought Irwin back.

Anyway, since then, I have grown to appreciate these commercials. But, their current radio ad describes their deal where you get free sheets with any mattress purchase. They then use a play on words with the word "sheet" and have quotes like "I don't give a sheet" and "You're up sheet's creek". I think they've gone too far. Has anyone heard this ad?

Yes, I have. And the response by the radio stations are just as interesting to note.

The running pun theme on the new ad is "giving a sheet," which is a play on the phrase "giving a shit", which of course cannot be played on public radio. The puns are used in several places in the ad.

On KABC radio, the commercial bleeps out every time the word "sheet" is used in which many people would associate "shit" with the word, as in "giving a sheet" or "sheet out of luck."

KFI radio, on the other hand, allows the words to go unbeeped.
